How to Clean Cornhole Bags
Cleaning your cornhole bags is not rocket science. All you need is some time and common household supplies. However, the process takes some time due to soaking and drying. The cleaning process for corn-filled bags is slightly different than resin-filled bags.
Let’s start our discussion with how to clean corn-filled bags!
How to Clean Corn-Filled Cornhole Bags?
Corn-filled bags are filled with organic corn kernels. You don’t want to get the corn inside wet as it will become a victim of mold and decay sooner than anticipated.
For cleaning your corn-filled bags, you will have to exercise maximum care and avoid wetting them. The best way to clean corn-filled bags is to take a soft brush like a shoe or cloth brush and use light soap. The fabric of the bags is water-resistant, but water can still seep in through the seams and tiny spots between the stitches.
Only brush the outside of the bags with a light soap or washing liquid and never place your corn-filled bags in a water bucket or wash them under an open tap. Once the surface of the bags is gently scrubbed, use a clean damp cloth to wipe off the residual soap. Make sure the wiping cloth is not wet and dripping water. It MUST be damp. Let your bags dry. You can place your bags under the sun or dry them with a hairdryer. If you are using a hairdryer, make sure you keep the dryer at least 3-4 inches away from the bag.
One scrubbing will suffice most of the time. If you don’t get the desired process, repeat the process after the bag dries completely.
How to Clean Resin-Filled Cornhole Bags?
Resin-pellets are frequently used for filling cornhole bags instead of corn kernels. They have their advantages and disadvantages over corn-filled bags, but one thing is for sure, you can wash them easily and quickly compared to corn-filled bags. You will need a bucket, dishwashing liquid, a plastic brush, and a rack or dish strainer for drying.
Fill a bucket with warm soapy water. The bucket should be big enough to accommodate all the bags, and the water level must allow the bags to drown in the bucket. Let your bags soak in for 2-3 hours. Some people suggest soaking the bags overnight, and some say a 1-hour soak is enough. We soak our bags for 3 hours and get the best results.
Take out your cornhole bags one at a time and give it a nice gentle scrubbing with the brush. We don’t want you to get too energetic with scrubbing. I damaged the fabric of one of my favorite bags once when I got crazy with it. Pay attention to nooks and corners while scrubbing, and don’t forget to scrub around the seams. These are the places where dirt usually gathers.
After you are done washing one bag, place it in a bucket of clean water. Go through all the bags and place them in the clean water bucket.
Now rinse the bags thoroughly to remove the leftover soap and dirt off the surface of the bags. Check each bag individually for any leftovers.
Squeeze each bag to remove the excessive water. Place them on a rack to let them dry. You can also use a hairdryer for a quick dry.
Can I use a Washing Machine to clean my Cornhole Bags?
If you play with corn-filled bags, do not wash them in a washing machine. You can only wash resin-filled bags in a washing machine that too on a delicate setting. However, you will need to place the bags in a mesh bag that comes with your machine. It is used to wash delicate items.
A mesh bag will come in handy as it will save your machine if the resin-filled bag bursts inside.
Can I dry Cornhole Bags in a Dryer?
Yes. You can dry your cornhole bags in a dryer. You can set your washing machine to the dryer mode and place your bags inside. Your cornhole bags (corn or pellet) will dry within one standard cycle, but you will still need to place them in the sun for complete drying.
